Blog Post #2

1. To me the message of the video Mr. Dancealot is to show people how bad a teacher can be. Depending on what a student is being taught they need to do hands on stuff and not just listen to a teacher lecture. The author makes his case by showing in the end that none of the students knew how to dance. The students did not know how to dance because the teacher never worked with them on it. I agree with the author on showing us how this is not a good method. As far as the teacher goes I think he did a horrible job and was not thinking about what was best for his students.

2. Robert thinks that in the 21st century everything is going technological. By this I mean that students can get all the information they need on the internet anytime they want to get it.
Outline: Technology Learning
A. Engaging Students
1. Let kids be active
2. Let kids learn
3. Solving Problems
B. Learning
1. Ask hard questions
2. Make kids have
3. Multi-media
I think that over the years teaching and technology will always change. We are a society that keeps on moving and progressing forward. We will always have the next new big thing. I don't think it will change too drastically in my life time but I will be excited what's different within the next fifty years. If Robert is correct we will still need teachers but are job won't be the same as it is today. There will probably be less teachers because they will be able to have more students at one time since most will be on a computer.

3. My reaction to this video was that I don't think it is entirely correct. Sure I think the internet is a good source of finding information but I don't think it helps you learn the same way as a teacher does. I think we as people are already isolating ourselves more and more from one another. People learn in all different ways. Some may do good with technology learning while others do better if someone says everything out loud to them. I also think that it will make people dislike facebook, twitter, and all other resources more because it will be demanded instead of a leisure.

4. The thesis of Mrs. Davis's video is how to teach students about new software. I was kind of baffled by this video. I think Mrs. Davis was right about some things like teachers not knowing everything and sometimes students need to learn things on their own. I didn't understand the point of her class though. Like what the students were supposed to be doing with the avatars. To me this would be a fun class for students to choose as an elective. I think a computer class about how to make websites and stuff like that would be more beneficial to students.

5. Who is ahead in the learning race you ask? Well I think it depends on how you take the question. I think undergraduates are a little bit at a disadvantage. We all know people don't like change and yet everyone wants to go technology based learning. It's going to be harder to teach undergraduates because it is something new in are world and their has been nothing this advanced so it is a little hard to learn with being older. I also think younger kids are more eager to learn and they have not learned any other way so that's all they will know. An example: my mom went to the doctor awhile back and a young child came up to a magazine but instead of opening it he or she kept running his or her finger over it like an ipad. Are these kids now a days so confined to technology that they don't know how to open up a book? Another example I will give is how easy is it for a younger kid to learn a foreign language compared to an adult? Kids are just now learning everything for the first time so it is a lot easier to teach the first go around then to wait until the brain has developed and then teach something new.

6. Yes, flipping the classroom is new to me. I think it is a good idea and can be useful because I think it will allow the teachers to cover a little more in class if the students already know a little bit about what they are going over. However, I do feel it will be hard to self motivate some students to do this. You are always going to have over achievers and slackers. As a teacher you will have to find a good way to make sure all kids love what they are being taught so they will learn.

7. I think you can bring in group work from the locker room. As in sports everyone is on the same team and everyone is working towards the same goal. Some people are better at certain things then others but that's why you work as a team and use each others strong points. As an example when we re-took the syllabus test as a group in class the other day we all said what we thought the right answer was first. If someone had a different answer we would talk, discuss, and debate why we though are answer was right. In the end our group scored a 40 out of 40. So I think group work can be very effective when everyone wants the same goals.

Blog Post 1

What are the things you have heard about EDM310?

I have heard that this class takes a lot of time and that if you can not dedicate the time for this class then you need to take it whenever you can. I have also heard that it is not very hard which is good since of all the time it requires you to put into it.

What fears do you have about EDM310?

The only minor concern I have with EDM310 is the group projects. I know some people don't like to participate or help do the work. I know that everyone probably has busy schedules outside of school so it may be a little hard to meet up with all of are different schedules.

Compare and contrast EDM310 with other courses you have taken in college or high school?

EDM310 is the same as far as having to do a few blogs and for a speech class I took I had to upload videos of my speech. I think EDM310 is different as fas as it being more advanced and a lot more work then any of the other classes I have taken.

What do you think will be the most difficult for you in EDM310?

As of now I am really unsure at what will be the most difficult but if I had to say something I would say maybe the time it takes to put in for some of the projects with having to interview and ask teachers and students questions.

What is the best way for you to address this "most difficult" aspect of EDM310?

Depending on exactly what I am struggling with I will cut back my hours on other things, for example work, and put more hours into what I need to focus on. I will also ask as many questions as possible to make sure I understand everything it is I need to do.

What questions do you still have about EDM310? What ideas do you have about how to address those questions?

As of now I have no questions. Everything has been pretty easy and self explanatory so far. If I do have any questions I will be sure to e-mail you or even ask a classmate as soon as possible because I don't want to get behind

My name is Veronica Pharez Nall but everyone calls me Ronni. I am recently married so Pharez is my maiden name and Nall is my new married name. I am born and raised from Fairhope, AL. My parents house is on the river so I grew up loving the outdoors and swimming. The majority of my childhood was outside playing in the dirt and getting sweaty so you could say I am a tomboy. I have two older brothers so I grew up knowing how to hold my own. They would give me hard times sometimes which was fine because it has made me into the person I am today. My brothers are ten and seven years older than me though so once I was in middle school both of my brothers were out of the house. It was kind of like growing up as an only child. Since I am the baby and I am the only girl I would say I probably have been more spoiled then them but I don't take that for granted and I am certainly not unappreciative. My parents have been married for over thirty-five years and I hope my marriage lasts as long as theirs. I love my family so much and look up to them for all that they have accomplished and done in their lives. I am a very active and competitive person, so I love playing sports and excepting challenges. I have done almost every sport at least once some on teams others just for fun. I have done volleyball, basketball, soccer, track, cheer-leading, backyard football, tennis, swimming, golf, disc golf, and rodeo. My favorite is rodeo. I got my first horse when I was in the 5th grade and that is when I started rodeoing. The events I competed in were barrel racing, pole bending, goat tying, and breakaway roping. I still ride my horses every chance I get and still compete in barrel racing whenever I can.
After I graduated from high school I moved to Snyder, TX to attend Western Texas College where I received an associates of arts. This was a very small town it had a wal-mart, which was not a super wal-mart, had about six fast food places, two nice family owned restaurants, a bowling alley, and a two room theater. The reason I chose this school is a bunch of rodeo people from Alabama were all going to school out there so I decided to join. It was a fun experience and met a lot of great people but it is not somewhere I would ever want to live permanently. I moved home after I finished school and I wasn't sure what I wanted to get a degree in so after some thinking I decided to go to school for cosmetology at Genesis in Daphne, AL. At Genesis I had to complete 1500 hours of cutting hair, coloring hair, manicures, pedicures, waxing, and facials. After graduating I started working in a salon and did this for a couple years but I still did some other work on the side. One of which was subbing in a school. I loved it so much that I decided to go back to school to get my degree in Elementary Education. I chose South Alabama because it is the closest University to where I live and so far I love it. I think in the 21st century an educator's work responsibility is to provide a safe and fun environment for the kids to learn in, to teach kids what they need to learn and make sure they are retaining the information, as well as being there for them for whatever they need.
